The Epistle - December 2017 - Vol. 22, No. 10

5 Please mark these dates on your calendar to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ this Christmas season. December 3, 10, 17, 24 – Sunday Advent Services Each Advent Sunday, we look forward to and prepare our hearts for the birth of our Savior through our Advent Candle lighting times, which also feature testimonies of God's goodness. Since Christmas Sunday falls on the day before Christmas this year, we will not be having a Christmas Eve service that evening. We will have our Christ- mas Sunday services on December 24 at both 8 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. The 8 a.m. service will be a simpler service featuring traditional Christmas Hymns and a message. At the 10:20 a.m. service both the Nichigo- and English-speaking congregations will celebrate our Sav- ior’s birth together. Songs of worship will be led by our combined English-Nichigo Worship Team and our Nichigo Choir, and there will be messages in both English and Japanese. December 9 @ 5:00 pm - All-Church Christmas Dinner Our entire church family -- from young to old and Nichigo to English congregations – will gather for a time of food, fellowship, and worship. Following dinner in the Social Hall, we will have a spe- cial Christmas play called, "A Christmas Gift" in the Sanctuary, followed by our Candlelight Service. Our "Special K" junior high group spent a November weekend at our annual retreat in Oceanside. Pastor T (Ryan Teramoto) was our speaker, and we studied the parables of Jesus during messages and small groups. Retreat highlights included making our annual lip dub music video, Kiyoshi Lee’s cooking, looking for sand dollars at the beach, and seeing how many people we could cram into a hot tub! = Mochi for the New Year Fresh mochi will again be offered for sale this year by the SELANOCO Chapter of the JACL.
