Trusting When We Don’t Understand

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. we will have the Celebration of Life for Chikara Furuta. This will be a very difficult service for the family as just 3 weeks after Chik’s passing, their only son Troy died suddenly. For many of us, it is a reminder that life is not predictable. There are ups and downs along the way. Many of us want to trust God. When times are good, it can feel easier. But when times are difficult, it is even more important to trust God.

Life can be going along smoothly for a season. Then, all of a sudden, life throws a curveball. Someone you know passes suddenly. Another person is diagnosed with cancer. You face your own health issues, lose a job, or struggle financially. The things you felt secure in all of a sudden feel shaky and uncertain.

How do you trust that God is good in these circumstances? How do you trust Him when you do not understand what is happening? When you cannot see a resolution?

We need to realize that trusting in God is more than a feeling. Trusting in God is a choice. We choose to trust in God and what God says even when our feelings or circumstances would have us believe something different.

Thought For Today: Trusting God is not about ignoring our feelings or reality. It is not pretending that everything is OK when it isn’t. Trusting God is living a life of belief even when it’s difficult.

Today’s Prayer Focus: Continue to pray for the Furuta family in the midst of their ongoing sorrow and grief. Pray that the Lord would teach us how to trust, even when it is difficult and we don’t understand. Deo Volente.
