Love, The Greatest of Blessings
“13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” I Corinthians 13:13
Love Is The Greatest Of All Blessings! In the Greek language there are basically 3 words for love. “Agape” is a divine love. It is used to express and unconditional loyal love. The second word is “Phileo” which is used to describe a brotherly type of love. The city of Philadelphia is known as the city of brotherly love. The third word to describe love is “Eros” used to describe a romantic type of love.
There are many who might say that the greatest of all blessings are material wealth, fame, fortune, status, and success. But in all my years as a pastor I have never heard anyone say on their death bed, bring me my diploma or my check book. What they value most is the love of family and friends.
Often times when we ask what God is like, we respond by saying God is love. I John 4:8 says “God is love.” Because God is love, the most important lesson that he wants us to learn here on earth is how to love. It is in loving that we are most like Him. Learning to love is not easy and that is why we are given a lifetime to learn it.
Thought for Today: Think about someone that you can demonstrate love to. Reflect on how God demonstrated his love for you and remember, we are never more like God than when we love.
Today’s Prayer Focus: Praise God for being a God of love and how he has demonstrated his unconditional love to you. Take time to pray the points that speak most to your heart. Deo Volente.
