Freedom!
“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1
Tomorrow our nation to pause and to remember those who have served, fought, and gave their lives as the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. So often we take the many freedoms that we have for granted. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
The five freedoms the First Amendment protects are: speech, religion, press, assembly, and the right to petition the government. Together, these five guaranteed freedoms make the people of the United States of America the freest in the world.
In Galatians 6:1 the apostle Paul wrote that by Christ’s ultimate sacrifice on the cross that we have freedom. That is the freedom from the bondage and slavery of obeying the law in order to get us to heaven. The book of Galatians is referred to as the Christian’s Declaration of Independence. We are not saved by the law but by grace. Ephesians 2:8-9.
