Saved By Grace

“For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not as a result of works lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

On Sunday, Jesse Hahn, our new Director of Youth Ministries shared his testimony at the Bridge Service. One of the verses he shared that impacted his life was the above scripture passage. In Jesse’s testimony he talked about grace.

I once heard an acronym for grace as, “God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense”. Grace is God’s unmerited favor that He has bestowed on us. All the riches that we have in Christ, God’s Love, Forgiveness, the hope for everlasting life, etc., has been bought for us through the expense of Christ’s death on the cross. Many people falsely believe that we get to heaven by what we do. But, if we could get to heaven by what we do, what was the point of Christ dying on the cross? The apostle Paul writes here in Ephesians 2:8-9, that our salvation is a free gift of God, not as a result of works.

Thought For Today: Do you believe that you are saved by what you do, or by what Christ has done for you? This is an important question that each of us must ask ourselves.

Today’s Prayer Focus: Thank God for his “Amazing Grace” that has saved us and has purchased a place for us in His heaven for all eternity. Who comes to mind when you think of “who needs this free gift of salvation?” Take time to pray for them.
