Our Unchanging God

“He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;” Daniel 2:21

Happy First Day of Fall!! Today is the fall or autumn equinox and will last until the winter solstice on Thursday December 21st at 10:27 a.m.

Yesterday I saw a post on Facebook that said, “100 days to Christmas.” With Christmas only 100 days away, spring will not be far behind and then summer and then another fall. Wait! Am I rushing things? Maybe it is time to slow down.

Although the seasons come and go, we do need to be reminded to slow down and focus on the God who never changes. Psalm 90:1-2 says, ,

“LORD, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God”

Turn on the TV or read the newspaper and there’s a lot of unwelcome changes in our world. Moral, social, political, and even religious. As parents send their children off to school we see that the world is very different from the one that many of us knew as children.

Even in returning to Wintersburg after 8½ years things have changed. Staff has changed, session has changed, the campus has changed, and excuse me for saying this, but even people have changed. Someone made a remark to me that I have a lot more gray hair! But amid all the changes, one thing, one person, never changes—our eternal God.

Thought For Today: Reflect on this first day of fall that God does not change. His life is always the same. His character is always dependable. His truth, His ways, and His purposes do not change. His Son does not change. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. The theological word for that is “immutable.”

Today’s Prayer Focus: Praise God that amidst all the changes that we see around us, that God does not change. Deo Volente.
