This day in history: January 15, 1929 one of the most famous American’s was born. His name was Michael King Jr. Does that name sound familiar to you? Perhaps the name Martin Luther King Jr would be a more recognizable name. In the summer of 1934 his father, Michael King Sr. made a trip to Germany in which he was so inspired by the life of the great Protestant reformer Martin Luther that upon returning from that trip, he changed his name to Martin Luther King Sr. On April 12, 1934 his son’s name was changed from Michael King Jr. to Martin Luther King Jr.
This weekend as we remember the life of Martin Luther King Jr. we also remember the impact that Martin Luther had upon the King family and millions of people around the world. On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther posted his 95 theses to the Wittenberg Castle Church which challenged the Catholic Church and launched the Protestant reformation.
Any Elder or Deacon who is ordained or installed in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. must respond to the question, “Do you sincerely receive and adopt the essential tenets of the Reformed faith as expressed in the confessions of our church….?”
