Fight The Good Fight
“For you are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me.”
In my devotional yesterday, I shared a conversation with a man who has recently come back to church and has been struggling in his spiritual life. It reminded me when I was in Japan as a missionary with OMF. The Field Supervisor would often remind us that God has not called us to a playground but to a battleground. As we read in scripture, the Bible frequently uses the images of war and conflict to depict the Christian life. The apostle Paul exhorted Timothy, “Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:3). He also wrote, “I have fought the good fight” (2 Timothy 4:7).
Anyone who chooses to follow Jesus Christ will face opposition from the Enemy. But the good news is that we can win this battle because of Christ’s victory over sin and death at Calvary. Jesus said in Matthew 16:18 that “the gates of Hell would not prevail against the church. God’s Word has told us how to win this spiritual battle. Our objective is to reach as many people as we can with the gospel. And as we advance into enemy territory with the gospel message, ultimately, we will win the battle.
Thought For Today: Do you feel a little overwhelmed in the spiritual battle right now? Understand that God is with you. If you’re a follower of Jesus Christ, then you’re under His protection. He’s watching out for you.
Today’s Prayer Focus: Pray that the Lord would “bind” Satan, our enemy from anything he would seek to do destroy God’s work in and through your life. Deo Volente.
