We Grow Daily, Not In A Day

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35; “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Luke 5:16

In our staff meeting last week, we talked about how growing as leaders takes place daily and not just in a day. Most days, I write a daily devotion. Each day, I wonder what I should write that will be a blessing and encouragement to those who read it. Often times the topic comes from watching the news or something I have seen, heard, or experienced.

Devotions are often understood to be a time set aside to devote oneself to prayer, Bible study, or the private worship of God. Some Christians call this time Bible study, a Quiet Time, or an appointment with God. All these names point us to the essential purpose of this vital time which is to grow closer to God.

Having a daily Devotion can help us build self-discipline. Being constant in our prayers, bible study, and private worship prepares us for other disciplines needed in our life. On the other hand, if we fail to have a daily devotional time our spiritual life will suffer. Mark 1:35 and Luke 5:16 reveal to us that quiet time alone was a daily practice of our Lord Jesus.

Thought For Today: Remember, growth takes place daily and not in a day! Are devotions part of your daily practice? If Jesus needed private time alone with God how much more do we need it? Beware that Satan wants to rob you of this time with God.

Today’s Prayer Focus: Pray that God will bind the work of Satan as he attempts to distract you from your daily time with God. Deo Volente.
