Unexpected Bad News

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:1-2

On Sunday, I received word that Lance Miyatake was diagnosed with an Aortic Dissection and was in need of emergency surgery. I know from past experiences with Mel Hisaka and Bob Fukunaga that an Aortic Dissections is critical.

Receiving bad or unexpected news can be very unsettling. Suddenly all sense of normalcy goes out the window and plans are put on hold. Often times we are faced with managing our lives one day at a time.

When we go through times of uncertainty, we can feel disoriented and confused. So why does King David write in Psalm 62:1-2 that “I will never be shaken?” Does that mean he never felt bewildered by life’s circumstances?

We know from scripture that David faced times of trial when he was pursued by King Saul when he was rebuked by Nathan over his adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah the Hittite. What made David a man after God’s own heart was that he didn’t cover up his feelings about the tough times he was going through but he kept his trust in God.

Thought For Day: In Psalm 62 David gives us a beautiful invitation. “Trust in God at all times for He is our fortress.” We can not control what bad news we may receive but we always have the invitation to trust in God. As we do, God’s promise is that we will not be shaken.

Today’s Prayer Focus: Thank God that He is our rock and fortress. Pray for Lance and the Miyatake family. Deo Volente.
