Comfort and Peace
“The LORD is near to the broken-hearted, he saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 34:18
In Israel and Palestine, thousands of people are dying, injured, or wounded. Sadly, these numbers will rise over the months to come as news reports suggest that Israel will soon move into Gaza.
Closer to home, last Thursday, the father of Marcia Tengan passed away and it is a difficult time of sorrow and grief for the family.
Some verses that have been a source of comfort and encouragement to me in my own times of grief have been Isaiah 53:4 which says this of our Lord, “He was a man of sorrow and acquainted with grief.”
When Lazarus, the close friend of Jesus died, John 11:35 says, “Jesus wept.”
A verse from that great hymn of the Christian Faith, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” says, “What a friend we have in Jesus all our sins and griefs to bear, what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.”
