Tax Day!
“Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” Romans 13:7
Two weeks ago, I went to my tax preparer to pick up my tax documents. When I got home I texted Sherry that I wasn’t happy. I complained to her that I had to pay $$$$$ in taxes. Sherry was not as sympathetic as I had hoped. She said, “Dad, those taxes go to help pay for the goods and services to benefit others. To pay for roads, medicare, medical, education, defense, etc., etc., etc.
After talking with Sherry I read the above passage of scripture from Paul’s letter to the Romans. The attitude that we have towards paying taxes is not new. The first-century Christians dealt with having the right attitude towards taxes as well. So Paul wrote, “if you owe taxes, pay them.” If respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”
Thought For Today: As today is Tax Day, remember that the apostle says that not only are we to pay our taxes, but if we owe respect, we are to give that; if honor, give that. Our willingness to pay taxes with the right attitude is being obedient to God’s Word. Thank you, Sherry!
Today’s Prayer Focus: Pray for your attitude today. Whatever challenges or circumstances you find yourself in pray that you will respond in a way that is pleasing and acceptable to God. Continue to pray this week’s prayer fuel. Deo Volente.
