Be Discerning
“All the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate. They told Ezra the teacher of the Law to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded for Israel.”
Nehemiah 8:1
Where do you get your news these days? From TV, the internet, your mobile phone? In Biblical times, when people like Era wanted to deliver a message, the people had to gather together in one location. Now, the power of the media enables us to communicate with people instantly no matter where they are in the world. We can get the news in our car, in the city or country, at the beach or in the mountains. Today, 142 million people use social media on their smartphones to get the news.
With so much news available to us, we are exposed to messages that can build up or tear down, edify or destroy. The media today can shape our thoughts and even control our lives. That is why it is important for us to be discerning.
Thought For Today: What control does the media have over your life? Are you discerning about what you allow to come into your mind? Are your values shaped more by the news than by the Bible? Take time today to read about the Greatest Good News the world has ever heard. You will find it in your bible. Today, fill your heart and mind with God’s Word!
Today’s Prayer Focus: Pray that the Holy Spirit will guard your heart and your mind by keeping your focus on the things of God and not on the things of the world. Deo Volente.
