For This Child I Prayed

I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life, he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.” I Samuel 1:27-28

When my sister and brother-in-law adopted their daughter Karissa from China, I remember that they used I Samuel 1:27-28 when they sent out their announcement that they had now become parents.

28 years ago, on Easter Sunday, April 7, 1996, Sherry May Truong was born to Chinese/Vietnamese parents in San Jose. Two and a half months later when we adopted Sherry, the same verse resonated with Kazuko and me. For some time, we had hoped and prayed that the Lord would bless us with a child. That prayer was answered on June 22, 1996, when Sherry came into our hearts and lives and has been a joy and blessing ever since.

Today I give special thanks and prayers to God for the gift of Sherry. She has been an inspiration to me as she has gone through her trials and tribulations with Transverse Myelitis, and I am grateful that she has not given up on her faith.

Thought For Today: Take time to thank God for the gift of your children, grandchildren, nephews, or nieces, and pray for the Lord to move and work in their lives to draw them closer to a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus.

Today’s Prayer Focus: Pray the above thought for today and ask for God’s riches and blessings to fall upon your children, grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. Deo Volente.
